About Us
Our History
Central Masjid is formerly known as Masjid-al-Bilal which was first located at Kensington Crescent, Kingston. As the number of members expanded, a larger property, formerly a guest house was identified and purchased in 19__. Thus the birth of Central Masjid of Camp Road was born.

Again, as the community grew, a need for a school in the community was identified. Thus, the Islaamiyah Basic School was born and established on 4th January 1999. However, due to limited resources, it was initially housed in a section of the Masjid.

Between 2001 - 2002, by Allah's permission, overseas donors contributed to the erection of its very own 2-story school structure adjacent to the Masjid on the same property. Thus, the school was able to invite more persons from the community for K1, K2 and K3 classes. Truly, Allah swt is the Best of Planners.

In 2004, Hurricane Ivan did extensive damage to Jamaica. Central Masjid was not spared. As such, Islaamiyah Basic School relocated their classes downstairs and Central Masjid was relocated to the first story.
New floor plans were designed and agreed upon for a new and improved Masjid to serve the growing needs in Jamaica. Thus began a dedicated fundraising campaign. In 2007, construction started and continued until 2010 leading to today's existing structure.

Uthman ibn Affan reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.”

Our Mission
To be an exemplary and unifying Islamic organization in Jamaica that contributes to the betterment of the Muslim community and society at large.
Our Vision
To help the community thrive and to build; to strengthen and sustain individual, family and community life. To facilitate personal and social development of young people, by engaging them in all aspects of development, including personal, social, education, cultural, spiritual, physical, and vocational.

Our vision is to inspire our current and future generations to build a continuous relationship with Allah (God) by maintaining an environment of constant remembrance of Him and applying the values found in the prophetic model of the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
Central Masjid is dedicated to serving the religious, social and educational needs of the local Muslim Jamaican community in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah. We call forth all Muslims to set the highest standard as concerned citizens devoted to ethical behavior and justice for all; ideals that can be achieved by uniting and collectively holding on to the rope of Allah (God almighty); the Qur’an.

We recognize that this will entail a constant struggle to become that middle nation, which is constantly striving to uphold the good whenever it is encountered and forbidding the evil wherever it may reside.

This, our shared responsibility, is formidable so individually we must dedicate ourselves to becoming walking talking ambassadors of Islam following in the footsteps of our illustrious Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

At Central Masjid, we will strive to develop and leverage the collective community resources to launch initiatives that serve the Muslim and the greater non-Muslim community focusing on,
-
Promoting Islamic values and principles in accordance with the Qur’an and Sunnah
-
Providing religious and community services to the Muslims of Jamaica
-
Developing, promoting and distributing educational materials and programs for non-Muslims in the area
-
Reaching out and collaborating with local organizations for charitable and good will campaigns designed to assist those in need in the Kingston area and its surrounding communities.
-
Dedicated Islamic initiation and ongoing mentor-ship and support for new Muslims
-
To endorse interfaith dialogue with other religious groups (and people of no faith) with a focus on clarifying misconceptions, finding common ground, and enhancing civil society through promoting core values of community, personal integrity, wisdom and love, care and compassion, justice and peace, and respect for one another and the earth.
-
To enable the community to develop greater self-confidence through a sense of belonging and renewed self-reliance.
-
To create unity through religion and celebrate diversity by reaching out and acting as a resource centre for the local communities, voluntary and statutory agencies and the wider community.

We welcome everyone to visit us, support us, and continually offer constructive ideas to better realize our united vision. Let us not forget that we are all members of the same human fraternity; our differences are meant to be embraced; our diversity should become our strength if we wholeheartedly commit ourselves to get to know each other because, as Allah has made clear, we are all descendants of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him).
